Atari US operations file for bankruptcy protection

The U.S. business of Atari have filed for bankruptcy protection.The manufacturer of the groundbreaking video game Pong seeks from its loss-making French parent company separate Atari SA.

Atari, Inc., together with Atari Interactive Inc., Humongous Inc. and California U.S. Holdings Inc. plan to secure independent financing for developing digital and mobile games.

Atari said in December it was looking to raise money and was talking to investors.

Atari SA, formerly Infogrames SA has been known to struggle financially for years.

Atari Pong was an arcade game with kick-starting the multi-billion-pound video games industry to help but more recent titles include "Centipede," "Missile Command" and Rollercoaster Tycoon 'credited.
